The Goodbye Cat by Hiro Arikawa

★★★★★
7 Stories, 9 Lives, 1 Box of Tissues.

If you’re anything like me, you probably haven’t quite recovered from Hiro Arikawa’s ‘The Traveling Cat Chronicles’. Grab your tissues and find a cozy spot, because Arikawa is back to tug at our heartstrings once again with ‘The Goodbye Cat’.

This book is a collection of seven soulful stories that explore the invisible, unbreakable threads between cats and their humans. For those of us who consider our pets family, this collection hits home. It captures that unique close-knit bond that kind doesn’t need words to be understood.

To my fellow Traveling Cat fans, you’re in for a treat! Two of these stories feature familiar faces (and paws) from the original book. Seeing them again felt like a surprise visit from an old friend. This book is a beautiful contradiction. It is heartwarming, filled with genuine laughter, and YES! it will absolutely make you shed tears. It explores the joy of a new beginning and the quiet dignity of a final goodbye.

‘The Goodbye Cat’ reminds us that saying goodbye is the price we pay for a love that changes us forever. It’s a messy, beautiful, tear-stained tribute to the creatures who own our hearts. Read it for the stories, keep it for the soul, but don’t say I didn’t warn you about the tissues.
