The Magpies by Mark Edwards

★★★★★
A friendly face, devil agenda.

Jamie is a character who evokes a love-hate relationship for me. On one hand, his bravery and determination are admirable. He refuses to back down in the face of the Newtons’ terror, showing courage. However, his hardheaded leads him to make impulsive decisions. This stubbornness sometimes puts him and Kirsty in even greater danger.

What frustrates me the most is how his obsession with uncovering the truth about the Newtons causes him to neglect his relationship with Kirsty. His single-minded focus on the neighbor’s sinister actions means he sacrifices the love and support Kirsty offers. This dynamic adds a layer of complexity of his character, making him both compelling and exasperating.

Kirsty is an incredible supportive partner to Jamie, standing by him in the terrifying ordeal with the Newtons. Her loyalty and love shine through as she tries to keep their relationship strong and provide emotional support, even when things get increasingly dangerous. I truly admire Kirsty strength and resilience.

However, the tragic event is the last straw, as Kristy realizes that their decision to stay and fight led to an unbearable loss. The moment of profound grief and regret highlights the immense emotional toll the situation has taken on her.

Kristy’s journey is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices and the limits of even the most supportive partners. Her character adds depth to the story, illustrating the human cost of Jamie’s obsession with uncovering the truth.

How could I miss the Newton! The Newtons are brilliantly crafted characters whose creepiness is palpable from the start. Their ability to maintain a facade of normalcy while subtly installing fear is masterfully done. Well done Mark!

The unpredictable of their actions keeps you on edge, creating an atmosphere of constant unease. Their psychological manipulation and insidious behavior make them some of the most chilling antagonists I’ve encountered. Their psychological manipulation Newtons’ presence looms large over the story, making “The Magpies” an unforgettable and spine-tingling read.

Overall, “The Magpies” is a chilling and thought-provoking read that I highly recommend to fan of psychological thriller.

It’s a story that will stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
